I just received an email from an old friend about this new kind of breast cancer called ?Paget?s Disease.? The sender requested to forward it but instead of doing so I preferred to post it to create more awareness and information among women out there. Below is the content of the said email.
?In November, a rare kind of breast cancer was found. A lady developed a rash on her breast, similar to that of young mothers who are nursing.
Because her mammogram had been clear, the doctor treated her with antibiotics for infections. After 2 rounds, it continued to get worse, so her doctor sent her for another mammogram. This time it showed a mass.
A biopsy found a fast growing malignancy. Chemo was started in order to shrink the growth; then a mastectomy was performed; then a full round of Chemo; then radiation. After about 9 months of intense treatment, she was given a clean bill of health.
She had one year of living each day to its fullest. Then the cancer returned to the liver area. She took 4 treatments and decided that she wanted quality of life, not the after effects of Chemo. She had 5 great months and she planned each detail of the final days. After a few days of needing morphine, she died. She left this message to be delivered to women everywhere:
Women, PLEASE be alert to anything that is not normal, and be persistent in getting help as soon as possible.
Paget's Disease: This is a rare form of breast cancer, and is on the outside of the breast, on the nipple and aureole It appeared as a rash, which later became a lesion with a crusty outer edge. I would not have ever suspected it to be breast cancer but it was. My nipple never seemed any different to me, but the rash bothered me, so I went to the doctor for that. Sometimes, it itched and was sore, but other than that it didn't bother me. It was just ugly and a nuisance, and could not be cleared up with all the creams prescribed by my doctor and dermatologist for the dermatitis on my eyes just prio r to this outbreak.. They seemed a little concerned but did not warn me it could be cancerous.
Now, I suspect not many women out there know a lesion or rash on the nipple or aureole can be breast cancer. (Mine started out as a single red pimple on the aureole. One of the biggest problems with Paget's disease of the nipple is that the symptoms appear to be harmless. It is frequently thought to be a skin inflammation or infection, leading to unfortunate delays in detection and care.)
What are the symptoms?
1. A persistent redness, oozing, and crusting of your nipple causing it to itch and burn (As I stated, mine did not itch or burn much, and had no oozing I was aware of, but it did have a crust along the outer edge on one side.)
2. A sore on your nipple that will not heal. (Mine was on the aureole area with a whitish thick looking area in center of nipple).
3. Usually only one nipple is effected. How is it diagnosed? Your doctor will do a physical exam and should suggest having a mammogram of both breasts, done immediately. Ev en though the redness, oozing and crusting closely resemble dermatitis (inflammation of the skin), your doctor should suspect cancer if the sore is only on one breast. Your doctor should order a biopsy of your sore to confirm what is going on.
This message should be taken seriously and passed on to as many of your relatives and friends as possible; it could save someone's life.
My breast cancer has spread and metastasized to my bones after receiving mega doses of chemotherapy, 28 treatments of radiation and taking Tamaxofin. If this had been diagnosed as breast cancer in the beginning, perhaps it would not have spread...

More than hundred years ago, great and brave Filipinos fought for the independence and sovereignty of our beloved country. Many of them sacrificed their lives for love of our country. They gave freedom to the Filipino people against foreign colonization.
I don?t know what got into our congressmen and congresswomen?s minds to pass the Constituent Assembly at this point in time. They are denying the inclusion of extending the term of the president and other politicians and only proposed economic revisions. I heard once that part of it is to allow foreigners to own land here in our country. Are these people really too old to forget the sacrifices of our fellow Filipinos to gain the freedom we had since then? Is that the solution they are eyeing for in relation to the global crisis? Or maybe some or most of them have lands to sell and create more money out of it?
Filipinos are simple living people and politicians must admit to themselves that they are the reason why millions of Filipinos living miserably. There are massive corruptions everywhere and poor governance of our leaders. I don?t understand why Congress is pushing to change the constitution alone knowing their very bad image among Filipinos. All their actions are self centered.
I just hope and praying so hard that election will happen and if that time comes I urge each and every voter to scrutinize thoroughly the people they will vote for. We had enough of hardships and troubles. If we want change in our country, we must all realize that change starts from and within ourselves.
Each and every vote of us is a very powerful tool to choose good leaders to rule and guide us. We must learn from our mistakes and experiences. For our kids and loved ones, let us help the May 2010 election happen and cast our votes wisely.
The family had just attended a birthday party of one of my nieces. It was held at McDonald?s SM Bacoor branch at around 3:30pm. Unfortunately the celebrant got ill before her party. She had measles and she was hospitalized for several days already due to fever. It was sad not having the celebrant around but the party went fun together with our relatives and friends of the celebrant. We had some games and then after that eating time. Yours truly participated in 2 games: Bring Me (see the video) and the group game (sort of Basketball Cups). I both won in the games. Yipee!!! After the tiring games we had our snacks and ended the party well.
The family did not go home immediately. We went in a computer school to buy a new printer to replace our troubled EPSON Stylus C20SX, hehehe. After some canvassing made we decided to buy the CANON Pimax iP1980. Since we had a multi-functional Brother we bought this one for printing purposes only. The printing procedure is very easy and they have great promo on the warranty. It costs Php2,195.00 with inks (black & colored) already. Right after that we went home coz we?re all tired already.
The host told us to get anything that starts with letter ?P? (tagalog or English word). As you can see, I almost searched and exposed all the things in my bag to search for the items. Fortunately with the help of my kids, sisters, niece and nephews I got 14 items that starts with letter ?P? and I won the game.
As a mom to 2 kids I am really afraid about my kids? safety once they get loose of my sight. I can never imagine knowing or seeing my kids a victim of crimes that?s proliferating in the community. Also I fear for my husband?s safety who use to travel most of the week due to his 24/7 work not only for any road accident but also on those reported vehicle-related crimes.
I do understand that we have the police force to undertake and protect us but personally I don?t want to 100% rely on their services. Currently, our police force is undermanned considering there are only tens of thousands of them as against the million populations. Also, they are not properly funded and most of the times the stipulated funds go to corrupt officials. Now that the global financial crisis continues to explode blow by blow I?m afraid that petty and big crimes will hit the statistics due to poverty and lack of work.
Personal safety and self-defense are things we need to be equipped of for all the members of our family to fight against bad elements. We taught our kids some basic self-defense to protect themselves while at school or in their school service. At school we told them not to talk to strangers and never get out of their school gates even with a classmate. I never allowed my daughter to wear jewelries and bring any gadget at school because it might cause her trouble. As for hubby, he always locks his doors and never passes by on dark and people less streets. He has a golf club given to him by a friend in placed beside the driver?s seat. At home, we see to it that the screen doors are always lock and we never entertain walk-in sales agent to enter the gate and even inside the house.
Let us always be preventive on everything and be alert on any bad occurrence that will come our way. Remember to take care always and watch out for bad guys.
