The Top 100 Groovy Songs of the 1960s

Last month I posted my Top 100 Groovy Songs of the 1970s and the 1980s, and now I've selected my favorite tunes of the 1960s (in chronological order). I was surprised to discover that this list was the most difficult one to do. I easily could have chosen 20 Beatles songs (and only 5 made the cut). And I'm not ashamed to admit that Lesley Gore's "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows" almost made it, but she lost out to Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger" (the latter is a far better tune, but the former just makes me happy whenever I hear it). There are so many great songs from this rich decade of music, but some tough decisions had to be made. I hope you like my list, but if you don't, I suggest you go make your own and have fun pulling your hair out.

Sunday Funnies: Dave & Zsa Zsa's Excellent Adventure

Here's one of my favorite comedy segments ever with David Letterman and Zsa Zsa Gabor driving around Los Angeles to devour lots of fast food. It originally aired on his show on May 13, 1994, and 15 years later it still makes me laugh out loud.

Groovy Flashback: Julia Child and her very sharp knife

Whenever I read about Julie & Julia, the upcoming film about Julia Child, I'm immediately reminded of Dan Ackroyd's hilarious performance as The French Chef on Saturday Night Live way back on December 9, 1978, which you can enjoy below. I've also included the trailer for Julie & Julia, which opens on August 7 and was directed by Nora Ephron (Sleepless in Seattle). Meryl Streep stars as the famed chef, while Amy Adams plays Julie Powell, a frustrated temp secretary who began a blog in 2002 about her year-long culinary quest to cook all 524 recipes in Child's cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. The movie intertwines the true stories of both women, who "discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible." Apparently it's the first major motion picture based on a blog (Deep Dish: The Movie will be next). I'm looking forward to seeing it. Meryl Streep playing Julia Child--sounds to me like a fabulous film for a gay man.

Groovy Gal: Michelle Obama on 'Sesame Street'

First Lady Michelle Obama visited Sesame Street on Tuesday to tape a Public Service Announcement with Elmo as part of the show's Healthy Habits For Life initiative. She later revealed that the appearance was "probably the best thing I've done so far in the White House." Don't you just love her?
