Regaw Rants: LeGarrette Blount Shot heard around the world

Well let me start with this, tragic. In the long haul Blount has talent and is suspended for the rest of the year. Since he is a senior it will be the end of his college career. This is sad because Blount has talent and will drop in the NFL draft because of this incident. [...]

No. 8 Mississippi Rebels at Memphis Tigers Preview and Pick

The 8th ranked Ole Miss Rebels head up the road to take on the Memphis Tigers this Sunday afternoon in both teams first contest of the year. Mississippi will enter the games with tons of anticipation for the 2009 season. The Rebels were among the biggest surprise stories of the 2008 season behind new coach Houston Nutt. The Rebels finally found success through the offense after struggling for most of the decade behind sensation quarterback Jevan Snead. Now the offense becomes the forefront of high expectations. However, the Rebels will have to face their first test on the road against a hungry Memphis team who is looking to rebound after a mediocre season a year ago. The Tigers have a lot of promising hopes on the offensive side of the ball as well this year and they hope the offense can explode to upset the Rebels this Sunday afternoon.

No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide vs. No. 7 Virginia Tech Hokies

The most prominent college football game for opening weekend will highlight two of the top programs in the country when powerhouses from Alabama and Virginia Tech collide primetime Saturday night. The game marks a battle of Top 10 opponents in a kickoff classic sponsored by Chick-Fil-A that highlights two of the top contenders from rival conferences in the ACC and SEC each year. The Alabama Crimson Tide participated in last year?s match-up when they embarrassed at the time 9th ranked Clemson Tigers 34-10. However, the Crimson Tide will face a much more worthy opponent in this year?s meeting by taking on the defending ACC Champions in Virginia Tech. Both teams had very similar stories in 2008 as they entered last season under the radar with an inexperienced group of players. However, both teams emerged last season in dominating form giving promising hope to 2009 with all the young talent returning. There is a lot of anticipation from both side lines for 2009 and even legitimate National Title hopes, but only one team will prevail this Saturday night when the two collide on neutral turf in the Georgia Dome.

No. 13 Georgia Bulldogs at No. 9 Oklahoma State Cowboys

The ever growing rivalry between the Big 12 and the SEC will not waste anytime sparking fireworks when two of the best teams from each conference square off this Saturday. Oklahoma State has tremendous potential and has all the makings to be among the very best offenses in America this season. However, the Cowboys will have to do something the Big 12 teams failed to do in 2008 and that is overcome the mighty SEC defenses. Georgia has flown under the radar heading into the new season perhaps due to all the superstar playmakers that were lost in Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno. However, the Bulldogs are in perfect position to deliver some surprises and they will get that chance early in their opening contest against the one of the most talented teams in the country. While many believe that it will be another classic battle between the SEC defense and Big 12 offense, few realize that both offenses could steal the show.

South Carolina Gamecocks at North Carolina State Wolfpack Preview and Pick

The North Carolina State Wolfpack and the South Carolina Gamecocks will be the featured battle to kick off the new college football season for the 2nd straight year in a row. The Wolfpack will host the Gamecocks in a primetime battle live from Carter-Finley Stadium in a battle between SEC and ACC schools. These two teams met on opening night one year ago down in Columbia when the Gamecocks derailed the Wolfpack by pitching a 34-0 shutout. However, things could be much different this year thanks to an emerging North Carolina State offense and they will enter the game as 4 point favorites over South Carolina. However, the Wolfpack will still have to overcome the mighty Gamecocks defense as they were unable to do last year to score the big victory.
